Romans 14:15a and World Politics

Just in case you cannot be bothered to look it up: If your brother or sister is distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer acting in love. To put it another way: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Or if you prefer Buddah: Consider others as yourself. Maybe you are a Hindu: “This is the sum of duty: do not do to others what would cause pain if done to you”

Or to put it yet another way, in the words of one of the internet Geek Gods (Wil Wheaton): Don't be a dick.(a few bad words, get over it, but maybe don't play it in front of kids or at work)

When Iranian President Hassan Rouhani went to meet with the Prime Minster of Italy in a famous museum he could not admire all of the art. Why? They covered the nudes so as not to offend him, or simply to show a sign of respect for his faith and culture.

Yet, this has met with a great deal of hew and cry from many Christians. The head of the Syrian Church said: “This is our culture. If you don’t want to see it, close your eyes!” (Click the link and see if it doesn't look like he is sitting on the Iron Throne but one made of bumper stickers rather than swords.) You can find the comments of the Usual Gang of Idiots elsewhere.

Guess what, they were only doing what good people should do! Be respectful of others. Think about what they might and might not like and treat them accordingly. Respect is not capitulation. Sensitivity is not subservience. We all need to get over ourselves and look with disgust at a world where anyone might think otherwise.

Unless, of course, you are French and worship Dionysus and cannot dream of serving a meal without wine. That's perfectly reasonable.

Yeah. Sure.

Do what Wil says.
